Bob studied Fine Art at the University of Durham and worked under the instruction of Richard Hamilton and Victor Pasmore. After graduation he exhibited widely in the north and nationally. He also worked as head of design on a degree course in a distinguished provincial college and was instrumental in establishing several degree courses and European collaborations that included Paris, Hannover, Helsinki, Milan, Barcelona and the Hague. Subsequently, Bob has exhibited his own works in London, Somerset and the South West, the North of England, and Cassis and Lisieux in France. Bob has also sold works as far afield as Australia and the US.
His current source of inspiration is the South of France, specifically the varying landscape between the Italian border and the mouth of the Rhone, with special emphasis on the dept of Bouches du Rhone around Aix en Provence and the adjacent Var, encompassing Mt St Victoire and the Mediterranean coast.
This area was a favourite for the Fauves and the painters of the Marseille school, as well as Cezanne. Bob's paintings are in oils, watercolour and more recently, mixed media using a technique that combines oils, paper, oil pastel and scorching to recreate the grit and aridness of the region.
Bob's range of imagery includes landscapes, still life, figurative and plant life studies. He accepts commissions and has also designed commercially - cards and posters. His work is available in original form as well as prints and cards. Prices, unless stated, are available on enquiry.
